Here is the download link to Grandma’s History voice recording.

Grandma Willie in the foreground and Grandaddy in the background at their church on Easter Sunday. I can’t imagine Grandma doing a selfie, so I can only assume that my sister Jennifer possibly took this picture.
I attended Sacramento State University. During my time there I took an African American History class taught by a great professor. One of her assignments was to interview 2 persons from a specific time period. We were to ask a vague, open-ended question to the person and then allow them to answer it however they chose without us prodding them along. The following voice is that of my grandmother.
Since this was an assignment I didn’t think to record her on a separate device than the same computer I was typing on. I, like most people, didn’t value the moment. I never thought that this may be the last recording of her voice. I never thought that perhaps she would provide an important slice of history. I never thought that this would be something that my future child would want to hear. We take so many things for granted and this was one of those times.
Please forgive the clickety-clack of the keyboard. I was typing out what she said as she spoke so that I could get the assignment done. I’ll try to find the written version of this. That will take a lot more digging. Love you much.
